ATLANTA ― Georgia will use a $1 million grant to help students in high-demand fields get college degrees on time.
Gov. Nathan Deal said Wednesday that college advisers and faculty will design degree plans to ensure students graduate on time and don’t accumulate debt. Officials also plan to discuss how to improve the availability of required courses.
Leaders of the University System of Georgia and the Technical College System of Georgia say they plan to participate in the program.
The Guided Pathways to Success program is funded by an award from the Lumina Foundation and Complete College America. Georgia is one of three states to receive a grant.
A 2011 Complete College America study found students at the state’s public colleges take more credit hours than needed, delaying their graduation dates.
