Spelman, Morehouse Ranked Among Top Colleges for Black Students

Morehouse and Spelman colleges were ranked the No. 1 and 2
colleges respectively for Black students by Black Enterprise magazine. 
The magazine’s rankings were based on a survey of academic programs and social atmosphere. A panel of 409 Black professionals in higher education surveyed 482 schools.
In addition to Spelman and Morehouse, the other colleges and universities in the top 10 were: Florida A&M University; Clark Atlanta University: Hampton University; Howard University; Xavier University; Tuskegee University; North Carolina A&T State University; and Stanford University. The Black Enterprise-DayStar Top 50 Colleges and Universities for African-Americans list was first published in January 1999. The listing was developed by Thomas A. LaVeist, associate professor of health policy, management and sociology at Johns Hopkins University and chief executive officer of DayStar Research.
