Fattah Gains a New Assignment
Rep. Chaka Fattah, D-Pa., a key player in higher education policy in recent years, is giving up his seat on the House of Representatives’ education panel for a new slot on the powerful House Appropriations Committee.
One of the architects of the Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP), Fattah will leave the House Committee on Education and the Workforce to join the Appropriations panel, which controls about $600 billion in annual spending across federal agencies, including programs in K-12 and higher education. “Investment in education will be my priority,” on the Appropriations panel, Fattah says.
