Ball State University in Indiana received a $3.5 million grant from the Lilly Endowment to increase student retention rates.
California State University-Northridge received $600,000 from the W.M. Keck Foundation of Los Angeles to support the establishment of a Materials Science Research Center.
Miami-Dade Community College’s Medical Center Campus was one of 20 community colleges nationwide awarded a $6,000 grant to plan an AIDS awareness campaign.
Morehouse College in Atlanta received $1 million from legendary entertainer Ray Charles. The college hopes to use the gift to fund its performing arts program.
Ramapo College of New Jersey received $40,000 for nursing scholarships from the Walter and Louise Sutcliffe Foundation and the Edward and Stella Van Houten Memorial Trust. In addition, the Ramapo College Foundation received a $2,000 grant from Avon Products Inc., in support of women who are seeking college degrees while raising children.
Seattle University’s School of Law received $1 million from an anonymous donor to establish an endowment to support students admitted to the school’s Alternative Admissions Program. The program provides access to legal education to individuals who are members of historically disadvantaged, underrepresented or physically challenged groups.
Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif., received a $15 million donation from BroadVision CEO Pehong Chen and his wife to establish a new institute for the study of particle astrophysics and cosmology.
The University of Southern Colorado in Pueblo received $25,000 from Wells Fargo Bank for scholarships for first-generation minority college students pursuing a business degree at the university’s Hasan School of Business.
