Bluefield College in Bluefield, Va., has been awarded $75,000 from the trustees of the Jessie Ball duPont Fund. The money will be used to help Bluefield cope with the stresses of a growing enrollment and a commitment to remain financially independent.

DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., received a $20 million grant from the Indianapolis-based Lilly Endowment Fund. The grant will be used to create a center dedicated to bringing the fruits of high technology to traditional liberal arts colleges.


Dillard University in New Orleans has received a $34,277 grant from the United Methodist Church. The grant will fund the school’s National Center for Black-Jewish Relations.

The Harvard Graduate School of Education in Cambridge, Mass., received a $12.5 million gift from Jane Fonda, an actress and activist for women’s issues. The gift will be used for gender studies.

Mt. San Antonio College’s
Regional Health Occupations Resource Center in Walnut, Calif., is the recipient of a three-year, $1.4 million grant from the California Endowment. The grant will create an International Health Care Workers Assistance Center for the Los Angeles and Southern California areas.

Augsburg College (Minn.), Bates College (Maine), Calvin College (Mich.), Chatham College (Pa.), Emory & Henry College (Va.), Loyola University (La.), Madonna University (Mich.), Mars Hill College (N.C.), Otterbein College (Ohio), Saint Joseph’s College (Maine), St. Thomas University (Fla.), Tougaloo College (Miss.) and Wartburg College (Iowa) have all been awarded grants of up to $80,000 from the Council of Independent Colleges and its grant-making unit, the Consortium for the Advancement of Private Higher Education. The grants will be used to build relationships between colleges and community partners while providing learning activities that meet community needs.
