California State University-Northridge’s National Center on Deafness received a $5 million five-year contract from the U.S. Department of Education to help deaf and hard-of-hearing students make the transition to college and then into the work force.

Clark Atlanta University received a $100,000 grant from the Tull Charitable Foundation Inc., to help construct a state-of-the-art multipurpose classroom building.

Delaware State University’s applied optics department received $75,033 from the Office of Naval Research to fund the first year of a three-year study on how light interacts with optical fiber. The university’s physics department also received $80,006 from the Office of Naval Research for the purchase of a Rapid Thermal Processor System. In addition, the university’s education department received $46,094 from the Delaware Department of Education to support the Higher Education and Disabilities Program.

Governors State University (Illinois) received a five-year $1,065,480 grant from the U.S. Department of Education to help increase the graduation rate for first-generation, low-income and disabled college students.

New School University’s International Center for Migration, Ethnicity and Citizenship (New York) was recently awarded a $125,000 grant from the German Marshall Fund of the United States. In addition, the university’s Journal Donation Project received a $500,000 grant from the MacArthur Foundation to expand the
project to Nigeria.

St. Olaf College (Minnesota) received a $12 million gift from alumni Jerrol and Alleen Tostrud. The gift will be used to build and maintain a campus recreation center designed to promote life-long health and
fitness.
