Albany State University (Georgia) has received $1 million from legendary entertainer Ray Charles. The funds were donated in honor of Charles’ beloved mother, Aretha Robinson, and will be used to support the university’s efforts to educate young people.
Morris Brown College’s (Atlanta) Fuller E. Callaway professor Dr. Gloria Anderson has received two grants toward improving the school’s chemistry program. The grants — one for $251,536 from the U.S. Department of Education and the other for an undisclosed amount from the U.S. Department of Defense Army Research Office — are part of the college’s increased focus on sponsored research and development.
Southern University at New Orleans’ chancellor Dr. Joseph Bouie has received a grant of $2,430,659 from the National Science Foundation to establish partnerships with local high schools in order to increase academic success in high school and at the undergraduate level in science and mathematics.
Western Maryland College has received a record grant of more than $8 million from the estate of a 1927 graduate and his wife. The gift from the joint estate of Thomas Howard Eaton and Catharine Eaton is earmarked for the college’s endowment.
Winston-Salem State University’s O’Kelly Library (North Carolina) received a $108,250 grant from the Winston-Salem Foundation. The grant will fund technology upgrades to help transform the library into a virtual research facility.
