Ball State University (Ind.) will receive $1.44 million over the next five years from The National Institute on Aging to study the effects of resistance training on the aging process.

Essex County College (N.Y.) is the recipient of a $480,200 High-Tech Workforce Excellence grant from the New Jersey State Commission on Higher Education.

Miami-Dade Community College’s School of Education has been awarded a $1.2 million grant by the U.S. Department of Education to upgrade the qualifications and skills of non-certified educators who work with students learning English as a second language.

The U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will award approximately $15 million in funds for atmospheric, environmental and oceanic sciences, and remote sensing research to City University of New York, Florida A&M University, Howard University and University of Maryland Eastern Shore to establish cooperative science centers.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will award $831,800 to North Carolina Central University  to assess environmental risk in minority and economically disadvantaged communities.

The University of Michigan has received a five-year, $3.7 million award from the National Science Foundation to improve the opportunities for tenure-track women faculty in science and engineering fields.
