Grants & AwardsAlbany State University (Ga.) has received $2 million from performing artist Ray Charles. The money will be used for scholarships and to help build a theater in the name of Charles’ mother Aretha Robinson.The Louisiana Board of Regents has funded a five-year $2,917,303 grant from Louisiana’s Millennium Health Excellence Fund to establish the Tulane/Xavier Center for Substance Abuse and Prevention. North Carolina Central University’s Hospitality and Tourism Program received $200,000 from Golden LEAF Inc., to support a program that will train displaced workers from the Greater Triangle Area to work in the tourism and hospitality industries. Tuskegee University (Ala.) received a $5 million endowment grant from the National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities, which will provide major support for a special initiative to reduce health disparities among minority populations.The University of Hawaii has received a $5.9 million federal grant to establish a biomedical research infrastructure network.The University of Michigan School of Education recently received a $175,000 grant from the Goldman Sachs Foundation. The Foundation aims to develop and support tomorrow’s global leaders by creating innovative programs promoting educational excellence worldwide.
