House Panel Approves Teacher BillCollege students who agree to teach at high-poverty schools could have their educational loans forgiven under legislation approved by a House of Representatives panel.
The Education and Workforce Committee endorsed H.R. 5091, which would reward borrowers who teach at low-income schools with large allotments of federal Title I funds.
Special education teachers would receive first priority for loan forgiveness, aides said.
The measure passed with bipartisan support by voice vote. Known as the CLASS Act, the bill now goes to the House floor for a vote.
