Funds Target Minority Science Program

The federal government is providing new funds to support minority science and engineering programs at both Black colleges and traditionally White institutions.

Grants under the Minority Science and Engineering Improvement Program will go to colleges and universities with at least 50 percent minority enrollment, to increase the number of minorities and, particularly, minority women, in science and engineering.

Recipients include: Talladega College, Ala., $144,806; Philander Smith College, Little Rock, Ark., $141,923; Winston-Salem State University, N.C., $141,318; North Carolina A&T State University, Greensboro, N.C., $136,688; City College of New York, $208,204; Benedict College, Columbia, S.C., $98,743; and Hampton University, Va., $180,198.
