Professional Appointments

Dr. Leslie T. Fenwick has been appointed dean of Howard University’s (D.C.) School of Education. She was most recently a visiting fellow at Harvard University. Fenwick holds a bachelor’s from the University of Virginia, a master’s from the University of Toledo and a doctorate from The Ohio State University.

Dr. Richard P. Coe has been appointed vice president of academic affairs at South Carolina State University. He had most recently been associate dean in the School of Business and Technology at Excelsior College. Coe earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the College of New Jersey and his doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Carl A. Cohn has been named to the board of directors of ACT Inc., a nonprofit educational and workforce development organization. He is currently superintendent of San Diego City Schools. Cohn earned a bachelor’s from St. John’s College, a master’s from Chapman University and a doctorate from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Fred D’Aguiar has been named the Gloria D. Smith Professor of Africana Studies at Virginia Polytechnic and State University. He is a professor of English at the university. D’Aguiar earned a bachelor’s from the University of Kent in England.

Cathy Daniels has been appointed secretary of the college at Spelman College (Ga.). She was most recently senior director of credits and creative rights administration for the Writers Guild of America, West. Daniels earned a bachelor’s from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a law degree from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Dr. Fernando Delgado has been named dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Hamline University (Minn.). He had been dean of graduate studies and research at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Delgado earned a bachelor’s from San José State University and a master’s and doctorate from the University of Iowa.

Dr. Harpal S. Dhillon has been named dean of the School of Business and Technology at Excelsior College (N.Y.). He holds a bachelor’s from Punjab University in India, a master’s from Oklahoma State University and a doctorate from the University of Massachusetts.

Patrick Kelly has been appointed director of the Criminal Justice Institute at Palm Beach Community College (Fla). He was most recently chief of the St. Cloud Police Department in Osceola County, Fla. Kelly earned a bachelor’s from Florida State University and a master’s from St. Thomas University.

Arlethia Perry-Johnson has been named special assistant to the president for external affairs at Kennesaw State University (Ga.). Most recently, she was the associate vice chancellor for media and publications for the University System of Georgia Board of Regents. Perry-Johnson holds a bachelor’s from Point Park University.
