Iowa Awarded $23 Million Contract for Clinical Trials

The University of Iowa was awarded a seven-year, $23.7 million contract to conduct clinical trials on flu vaccines.

The university was one of eight sites in the country that were selected for the contract from the National Institutes of Health. Those locations will serve as vaccine and treatment evaluation units, said Patricia Winokar, associate professor of internal medicine in the Carver College of Medicine and an infectious diseases specialist at University Hospitals.

The university has worked with the institute for the past few years, and thanks to the contract will continue conducting clinical trials on flu vaccines.
