the College of Charleston. A faculty member of the English department and the African American and African studies program
at Michigan State University, Butler earned her bachelor’s degree from Xavier University of New Orleans. She holds a master’s
degree in African American and African studies and a doctorate in multicultural and equity studies in education from Ohio State University.
