Students Up, Despite Cuts

Although budget cuts might mean fewer classes, one college’s enrollment has increased. According to The Signal, the College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, Calif., started classes Monday and college officials expect up to 25,000 students to  this semester attend – a 16 percent increase compared with last fall. The community college slashed 12 percent of fall-semester classes in response to an $11 million budget reduction this year. As a result, students are trying to fill fewer classes, which has left many without any guarantee they will get the courses they need.
