HOUSTON
Texas Southern University closed on Thursday until further notice due to Hurricane Rita.
Texas Southern University ordered a mandatory evacuation for all students living in dormitories and in the campus apartments. Students who had transportation and a place of relocation were told to make evacuation arrangements. Students from the above facilities who do not have transportation, including those students from out of state and out of the country, will be provided transportation to a shelter at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.
The campus will operate with a skeleton crew and the campus radio station, KTSU, 90.9 FM will simulcast Local 2 News (KPRC-TV, Channel 2) beginning at 10 p.m. on Thursday. The simulcast will continue until station officials can safely return to the campus and resume regular programming.
All student, campus and external special events are postponed until further notice. Forecasters say Hurricane Rita could hit the Texas Gulf Coast near Galveston this weekend, and this threat has led TSU to postpone two games scheduled for Friday.
