Hip-Hop Video Game Tour Targeting Black Colleges
NEW YORK
VIBE magazine has partnered with Boost Mobile and Motorola for the VIBE Game Club College Tour that ends this month. The 20-stop tour has been bringing popular hip-hop artists and top Xbox and PC videogames to historically Black colleges and universities. The VIBE Game Club College Tour, sponsored by Xbox and AXE Deodorant Body Spray, kicked off Oct. 24 at Texas Southern University and ends Nov. 18 at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro.
The tour, produced by Game Live — a video game live event company — and executive produced by NaviGame — a specialty marketing agency helping brands reach gamers — combines two popular entertainment mediums, video games and hip-hop, as VIBE’s live music show, “Yardfest,” will be featured at five of the campus stops. The free event is expected to reach some 40,000 video game and hip-hop fans at the respective campuses.
“The African-American audience repre-sents a huge segment of gamers and an important demo for brand marketers,” says Andrew Klein, president of NaviGame. “It only made sense to combine the music and games in one platform, creating the first-ever video-game lifestyle tour to hit this audience. In order to enhance credibility, we partnered with VIBE magazine to take their VIBE Game Club and make it come to life on tour.”
The tour features hip-hop artists Young Jeezy, Juelz Santana, Ghostface, Redman, Smitty, T-Pain, Rhymefest, Little Brother, Bubba Sparxx, T. Waters, Tango Redd, Styles P., Franchize, Noah and Ray Cash.
