Professional Appointments

Dr. Stanley F. Battle has been appointed chancellor of North Carolina A&T State University. He was most recently president of Coppin State University. Battle earned a bachelor’s from Springfield College, a master’s from the University of Connecticut and a master’s and doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh.

 

Dr. Bonne August has been named provost and vice president for academic affairs at New York City College of Technology, part of the City University of New York System. She had previously  served in an interim role. August holds a bachelor’s from D’Youville College and a master’s and doctorate from New York University.

 

U.S. Navy Vice Admiral David L. Brewer III (Ret.) has been named superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District, the second largest public school district in the nation. He retired from the Navy in March. Brewer holds a bachelor’s from Prairie View A&M University.

 

Shirl B. Davis has been named assistant director for human resources/recruitment and retention at North Carolina A&T State University. She was most recently employee relations manager at the university. Davis earned her bachelor’s from North Carolina Central University and a master’s from NCA&T.

 

ReNee’ S. Dunman has been named president of the American Association for Affirmative Action. She earned a bachelor’s from Virginia Commonwealth University, a master’s from Norfolk State University and a law degree from the University of Baltimore.

 

Dr. Bill White has been appointed dean of the Mountain State University School of Leadership and Professional Development. He is the founder and CEO of the multimillion-dollar Management Development Group. White holds a bachelor’s from Bluefield State College and a doctorate from Fielding Graduate University.

 

Patricia A. González has been appointed development director for the College of Education at the University of Texas at El Paso. She was previously director of marketing and communications for the United Way of El Paso. González earned a bachelor’s from UTEP.

 

Dr. Demetrios Kazakos has been appointed dean of the College of Science and Technology at Texas Southern University. He earned a diploma from National Polytechnic University in Athens, Greece, and holds a master’s from Princeton University and a doctorate from the University of Southern California.

 

Karen Lincoln Michel has been named president of UNITY: Journalists of Color Inc. for the 2007-2009 term. She is the state bureau chief for the Green Bay Press-Gazette in Wisconsin. Lincoln Michel earned her bachelor’s from the University of Wisconsin-Stout and her master’s from Marquette University.
