Professional Appointments

Dr. Michelle R. Howard-Vital has been appointed president of Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. She had previously been interim chancellor of Winston-Salem State University. Howard-Vital earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Chicago and a doctorate from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Dr. Michael Eric Dyson has been named university professor at Georgetown University (D.C.). He had previously been the Avalon Foundation Professor in the Humanities at the University of Pennsylvania. Dyson holds a bachelor’s from Carson-Newman College and a master’s and doctorate from Princeton University.

Dr. James Duah-Agyeman has been appointed chief diversity officer for Syracuse University (N.Y.). He had previously been director of the university’s office of multicultural affairs. Duah-Agyeman earned a bachelor’s and master’s from SUNY Brockport and a doctorate from Syracuse.

Olivia Metzger Jones has been appointed assistant director of international affairs at North Carolina Central University. She had most recently been the chair of the international studies department at Saint Augustine’s College. Jones earned a bachelor’s from the University of Sierra Leone and a master’s from the University of Leeds in England.
