Mississippi State Shooter in Custody

A Mississippi State University freshman has been apprehended and taken into custody following threats to kill himself and others on campus Thursday.

Madison, Mississippi, native Fhu-Qui Kong “Bill” Nguyen did not have a weapon and did not injure anyone, despite initial reports of an “active shooter” on campus, university President Mark Keenum said at a mid-day press conference.

“When we receive a credible threat, we don’t wait around” for something to happen, said university spokesman Sid Salter.

Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Chris Turnipseed told CNN that multiple reports of shots were a result of “panic and clutter.”

The university remained on lockdown for approximately an hour, but classes resumed at 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
