Morgan State University President Dr. David A. Wilson will consider adding a College of Osteopathic Medicine through a partnership with Salud Education, LLC, a company which has experience working with seven medical colleges in the U.S. and internationally.
If the Board of Regents and Wilson approve of the agreement and other details of the partnership, the university optimistically estimates it could have an operational medical school on campus by 2023.
The school would be the first new medical school at a historically Black college or university (HBCU) in nearly 45 years and the first osteopathic medical school at an HBCU. In addition, it would be the only school offering a doctorate in osteopathic medicine in the Maryland, Delaware, District of Columbia and Northern Virginia area.
“This is a unique opportunity not only to further the progress happening at Morgan but to do so in a way that could also reap huge benefits for the city of Baltimore, the state and the nation,” said Wilson.
