South Carolina’s Voorhees College Appoints Dr. Ronnie Hopkins President

Voorhees College, a small, rural and historically Black institution in South Carolina, has appointed Dr. Ronnie Hopkins as its 10th president.

Serving as interim president since January, Hopkins is a tenured English professor at Voorhees and was previously the college’s provost and vice president for academic affairs. Before arriving at Voorhees, he served as a dean at Benedict College, also in South Carolina.

Hopkins holds a bachelor’s degree in English with secondary teaching certification from North Carolina Central University as well as a Master of Arts in English and a Ph.D. in English, both from Michigan State University. He has completed postdoctoral studies at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill.
