SAN FRANCISCO ― Both Sonoma State University and San Jose State University have new women presidents.
The California State University Board of Trustees has appointed Judy K. Sakaki as president of Sonoma State University and Mary A. Papazian as president of San Jose State University effective July 1.
Sakaki currently serves as vice president of student affairs at the University of California, Office of the President. She succeeds President Ruben Arminana, who is retiring in June and has served as president since 1992.
A seasoned higher education leader with more than 25 years of teaching and administrative experience, Papazian is currently serving as the president of Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, Conn. She replaces Susan Martin, who was appointed as the interim president last August.
