Morgan State University student crowned Miss Maryland

HAGERSTOWN Md.

Shana Powell was crowned Miss Maryland 2007 Saturday and will compete in the Miss America pageant.

Powell, of Bowie, competed as Miss Allegany County. She won a $9,000 cash scholarship along with the crown. She is a student at Morgan State University.

Powell, 21, advocated music education and the arts as her platform. She sang “Glitter and Be Gay” from “Candide.”

Twenty young women from across the state competed in the annual scholarship pageant, held at the Maryland Theatre in downtown Hagerstown.
