Trump-inspired Mural Causes Controversy at University of Minnesota

ST. PAUL, Minn. ― A Donald Trump-inspired mural on the University of Minnesota campus has created a controversy.

The university’s College Republicans group painted “Build The Wall” on a campus bridge last week. Student groups paint signs and messages on the Washington Avenue pedestrian bridge every fall.

But WCCO-TV reports the mural was soon defaced, covered by the words “Stop White Supremacy.” Other protesters who weren’t involved in the vandalism say the original message was anti-immigrant hate speech.

Minnesota College Republicans chair Amanda Peterson said Tuesday it’s just the latest instance of conservative students being targeted due to their support of Trump. She says the group plans to re-paint the mural.

University president Eric Kaler has said that while the College Republican message may have been offensive, it should not have been vandalized.
