RIVERTON, Wyo. — University of Wyoming President Laurie Nichols visited Wind River Indian Reservation schools this week as part of an outreach effort to promote new programs available for American Indian students attending UW.
Her visit Wednesday also included a stop at the chambers of the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho business councils.
The Ranger in Riverton reports that Nichols also apologized for an incident in September 2015, when some students from St. Stephen’s Indian School were falsely accused of stealing from the UW book store.
School board member Ronald Oldman thanked Nichols for her apology and added that it was important for the university to look after its American Indian students. He said he and other tribal members experienced what those students faced, but to a lesser extent.
