Dr. Sylvia Carey-Butler

Sylvia Carey ButlerTitle: Chief Diversity Officer, Kennesaw State University

Carey-Butler is the chief diversity officer at Kennesaw State University (KSU). Prior to her appointment last July, she served as vice chancellor for academic support of inclusive excellence at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. At KSU, Carey-Butler oversees efforts to broaden perspectives around diversity and inclusion among the university community and its strategic partners. She’s also charged with developing strategies to recruit and retain KSU students, faculty and staff members. Carey-Butler has a master’s degree in social science with an emphasis on counseling from Binghamton University and a Ph.D. in higher education administration and policy from Vanderbilt University. Before joining the University of Wisconsin, she was the interim executive director for the United Negro College Fund’s Institute for Capacity Building and director of its Enrollment Management Program.
