New Director Appointed at Jimmy Carter Presidential Library

by Associated Press

ATLANTA — Meredith Evans has been named the new director of the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum.

Archivist of the United States David Ferriero announced Evans’ appointment on Monday. She begins work at the library in Atlanta on Nov. 29.

Evans previously oversaw the Department of Special Collections at Washington University in St. Louis. She also has worked at George Washington University and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She studied at Clark Atlanta University, where she participated in a project digitizing the papers and books of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

Ferriero says Evans’ experience with digitizing archival material will serve the library and the National Archives.

The Carter library’s previous director Jay Hakes left the position in July 2013.
