Students at Simmons College of Kentucky are eligible for the Kentucky Tuition Grant – nearly $3,000 value – due to a new bill signed into law by Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, Wave 3 News reported.
Senate Bill 270 was signed into law earlier this month.
The law also gives a $200,000 provisional pilot program to invest in West Louisville and a partnership with Kentucky State University and other historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in Kentucky, including credit transfers.
Due to racial injustices dating back to the Great Depression, Kentucky’s only private HBCU faced generational disadvantages and challenges, Wave 3 News reported.
