Saint Louis University to Get Full African American Studies Department

African American Studies will become a full department at Saint Louis University by Fall 2021, The University News reported.

“We’ve been making the case over 40 years for why this is a viable area of study,” said Dr. Christopher Tinson, current director of African-American studies

Departmentalization comes with benefits.

“It gives us more visibility and viability,” Tinson said. “And also, most importantly, it allows us to hire and tenure our own faculty who have lines in African American Studies.”
