LARGO, Md.
Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama was in Maryland Wednesday for a campaign rally in Prince George’s County.
U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings (D) and state Attorney General Doug Gansler were expected to join Obama on the campus of Prince George’s Community College in Largo, according to The Washington Post.
Prince George’s attorney Orlan Johnson chaired the event. He sits on Obama’s national finance committee.
According to a flier promoting the event, residents could help co-host the event by donating $10,000, attend a VIP reception for $2,300 or go to a cocktail reception for $1,000.
Johnson says as many as 5,000 people were expected to attend the rally, which was scheduled for 5:30 p.m. He says people are getting excited about Obama in Prince George’s, the nation’s wealthiest majority Black jurisdiction.
