Program Seeks To Steer More Students Toward College

A program to encourage high school seniors to consider higher education after graduation is being launched in three high schools this fall.

The program known as “Close the Deal” is intended to create a college-going culture for students. It supports high school counselors and uses people from colleges and businesses to assist students.

At Campbell County High School in Alexandria last week, seniors met with college representatives to find out how to apply for admission and financial aid. Local business leaders outlined skills needed to take advantage of opportunities.

Lt. Gov. Jerry Abramson, who started the program when he was mayor of Louisville, joined in the launch. The program goes to Bullitt Central on Tuesday and Lawrence County High School on Oct. 22.
