Nebraska Nursing Program Gets Diversity Grant

OMAHA, Neb. — A $665,266 grant should help the University of Nebraska Medical Center attract a more diverse pool of nursing students.

Officials plan to use the federal grant to set up a new mentorship program for high school students interested in nursing. The mentoring program will connect high school students with nursing students and registered nurses across the state.

The program will feature a summer camp that involves an adult family member to encourage students to get input on their career choice from family.

UNMC’s nursing college has programs in Scottsbluff, Norfolk, Lincoln, Kearney and Omaha.
