Kapor Capital Institutes Diversity Pledge for Its Venture Investments

tech-diversityKapor Capital has taken a first-of-its-kind step to get technology start-ups to be more inclusive: A diversity pledge.

To encourage the young companies it invests in to hire more people from diverse backgrounds, the Oakland venture-capital firm will now require all of them to sign a “Founders’ Commitment.”

The Founders’ Commitment has four parts: establish diversity and inclusion goals and include progress in meeting those goals in quarterly investor updates; invest in tools and training programs that target bias in recruiting, hiring and employment; organize volunteer activities for employees to engage with underrepresented communities; and participate in diversity and inclusion sessions hosted by Kapor Capital.
