Notre Dame to Take ESPN Lawsuit to State Supreme Court

INDIANAPOLIS ― A University of Notre Dame spokesman says the university plans to take a lawsuit from ESPN to the Indiana Supreme Court after an appeals court ruled the school’s police department is a public entity that is subject to state open-records laws.

The three-judge panel overturned a lower court decision, ruling Tuesday that the university’s police department is a public agency subject to the state’s public records law.

Notre Dame spokesman Paul Brown said the school plans on moving forward with appealing the decision to the next level.

If the appeals court ruling stands, the lawsuit would return to a South Bend court to determine which records the university must release.
