MANHATTAN, Kan.
Crews in Manhattan Tuesday fought to contain a fire at the main Kansas State University library.
The university says on its website that the smoke was reported around 4 p.m. Tuesday in Hale Library, which had been undergoing repairs. The 400,000-square-foot building was evacuated, and the university urged students to stay away from the area.
No injuries were reported. The library was built in the 1920s and underwent a massive remodel and addition in the 1990s. The university did not say when it will reopen after Tuesday’s fire.
KWCH sister station WIBW in Topeka reports the library will remain closed until further notice and that K-State tweeted just after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday that, due to the fire, the university would have to bring down its online systems. The university did not say how long the outage would last.
