Julian Vasquez Heilig has been named dean of the College of Education at the University of Kentucky, pending approval from the university’s Board of Trustees.
Vasquez Heilig comes to the university from California State University, Sacramento, where he served as professor of educational leadership and policy studies and director of the Doctorate in Educational Leadership program.
“We are excited to welcome Julian Vasquez Heilig to the UK family,” said provost David W. Blackwell. “As a thought leader in the field of education, he brings with him an exemplary scholarly record and a deep commitment to student and faculty success.”
Vasquez Heilig earned a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from the University of Michigan and another master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Stanford University. He is an author or co-author of nearly 50 articles, law reviews and book chapters on issues such as racial equity and teacher preparation, the university said in a news release.
