Last week, Dr. Douglas B. Palmer was elected the 27th president of the Culver-Stockton College Board of Trustees, replacing Dr. Kelly M. Thompson, who plans to retire this June, KHQA reported.
Before joining the private Christian liberal arts college in Canton, Missouri, Palmer previously served as provost, vice president of academic affairs and dean at Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio.
He earned his PhD in European history from Ohio State University, a master’s degree in modern European history from the University of Oregon and a bachelor’s degree in history from University of North Carolina at Ashville. He also served as a Fulbright scholar, conducting research in the Netherlands, and a research fellow at the Emory University School of Law.
In a statement, Dr. Lauren Schellenberger, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college, praised Palmer’s “passion for experiential learning, his experience with innovative graduate and online programs, and his deep understanding of the value of a small, liberal arts college education.”
