Illinois State University on Monday announced it has created a new position to “move diversity initiatives forward on campus.”
The university said it has named professor Dr. Doris Houston to the new position, which is interim assistant to the president for diversity and inclusion. Houston, who is currently chair of the President’s Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Council, will begin her duties in July.

“Dr. Houston’s long-time, stellar commitment to diversity and inclusion ensures Illinois State will advance the University’s values and accountability,” said Illinois State president Larry Dietz.
The university said Houston will oversee the systematic review of the Campus Climate Implementation Task Force and work as a liaison to the Diversity and Inclusion Council.
“The role will support centers and programs on campus geared toward populations that are underserved and connected through affinity groups,” said the university.
