Martin Methodist College and the University of Tennessee System signed a nonbinding letter of intent Friday, taking the first step in discussions for the small, 150-year-old, private, liberal arts college to join the UT System, according to University of Tennessee officials.
The partnership would provide southern Middle Tennessee families access to more affordable tuition and more undergraduate and graduate programs.
A potential agreement between the two institutions would require approval by the boards of trustees at both schools, the Tennessee state legislature, and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
