Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith, is among two others appointed as one of three co-chairs on president-elect Joe Biden’s COVID-19 taskforce, according to Hartford Courant.
Nunez-Smith currently serves as associate professor of internal medicine, public health and management at Yale School of Medicine. She is also the founding director of the Equity Research and Innovation Center. Her research focuses on the discrimination in health care systems and health equity.
The two other co-chairs include former Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. David Kessler and former Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy, The Hartford Courant reported.
“Everyone is affected by this pandemic, yet the burden is disproportionate,” Nunez-Smith said in a statement. “We know communities of color are grieving at high rates and are facing substantial economic impact. The transition advisory board is setting a course for everyone in our country to experience recovery.”
