DeVon Wilson has been appointed associate dean for diversity, equity and inclusion at the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s College of Letters and Science (L&S). It’s a newly-created position viewed as a “top administrative priority” by Dr. Eric Wilcots, dean of L&S.
Wilson is currently the L&S assistant dean as well as diversity coordinator and director for the Center for Academic Excellence.
According to the school, Wilson will lead “efforts in the recruitment, retention and success of underrepresented faculty, staff and students” and will “also support research and curriculum planning initiatives that advance the college’s goals for diversity, equity and inclusion.”
“It will not happen overnight, but my experiences as the founding director of the Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) and as L&S Diversity Coordinator have shown me what is possible when we are committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive environment for all,” said Wilson. “I am indebted to those who came before me who believed in making the Wisconsin Idea a reality for all communities.”
