Lincoln Sprinter Earns No. 1 Ranking Among Division III Athletes

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa.

Lincoln University sprinter Chazz “Rock” Clemons has earned the No. 1 ranking in the nation this year among NCAA Division III university athletes.

Clemons, a junior majoring in criminal justice, ran the 60-meter dash in 6.77 seconds earlier this year at an indoor meet in New York. He is ranked 10th among all collegiate sprinters and is considered a strong candidate for the 2004 Olympic Games.

Clemons is a graduate of Wilkinsburg High School in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Clemons’ coach, Cyrus Jones, was recently presented with a lifetime achievement award for his many years of success and dedication to track and field. Since arriving at Lincoln in 1985, Jones’ men’s and women’s outdoor and indoor track and field teams have won 15 NCAA Division III national championships. The most recent championships were won in 2000, when Lincoln’s men’s and women’s outdoor track teams won Division III national titles and the men won the division’s indoor national championship.
