Three HBCU football players were chosen in the 2006 NFL Draft.

The number of draftees from HBCUs this year dropped from last years total of six, but the fact three were chosen is still something that those programs are very proud of.  There are currently 41 players in the NFL, including the five rookies from last season, that played their college football at an HBCU. If the three that were drafted this year make their team’s rosters it will bring the total to 44.

This year’s HBCU NFL Draftees:

Tavaris Jackson – Alabama State – Quarter Back – Minnesota Vikings – 2nd Round

Jason Hatcher – Grambling – Defensive End – Dallas Cowboys – 3rd Round

Antoine Betha – Howard – Safety  – Indianapolis Colts – 6th Round
