Battle joins Bulls as assistant coach

AMHERST N.Y.
Former star guard Turner Battle is back with the Bulls,
hired on Thursday as a University at Buffalo
men’s basketball assistant coach.

An Associated Press All-American in 2005, Battle
replaces Chris Hawkins, who left the program last month to become an assistant
at Tulane. Battle was a key member
of the 2005 Bulls team that won a school record 23 games and earned an NIT
berth marking the program’s first postseason appearance.

Battle’s career numbers rank among the top five in numerous
school categories, including third in assists (458) and fifth in scoring (1,414
points).

He spent the 2005-06 season playing professionally in Europe
before breaking his arm last summer.
