In this second Black History Month-focused edition, Diverse features New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker’s rise and desire to become the next “education senator.” The issue also covers the celebration of several Black Greek organizations’ centennials this year, as well as criticism over their relevance and adherence to founding principles.
Another feature highlights the struggles of student-athletes throughout the civil rights movement to incite change. In addition, Diverse delves into “Whitman Teaches the Movement,” a program designed in collaboration between Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash., and the local school district to teach the history of civil rights in America.
