This weekend was full of action packed games for the 18 minority head coaches in the Football Bowl Subdivision(FBS). In the game of the week David Shaw and Stanford got an overtime win over then 20th ranked Oregon on the road in Eugene. James Franklin and Penn State beat Illinois to remain undefeated. And Brigham Young led by Kalani Sitake had an easy victory over McNeese State and now ranked 20th.
Big 10
A.P. 9 –James Franklin (4-0) and 9th ranked Penn State beat Illinois 63 – 24. This week they have the game of the week against Ohio State who is ranked 4th. It will be their toughest test so far this season. If they can win it they will become one of the favorites for the National Championship.
Lovie Smith (2-2) and Illinois lost to Penn State 63 – 24. This week they have a better chance of winning when they face Rutgers in New Brunswick.
PAC 12
A.P. 6 –David Shaw (4-0) led 6th ranked Stanford to an exciting overtime win over their conference rival Oregon 38 -31. Shaw and Stanford are the highest ranked team in the country among the 18 universities with a minority head coach. This week they face another strong team when travel to South Bend to take on 8th ranked Notre Dame. Notre Dame is also undefeated.
Herman Edwards (2-2) and Arizona State lost to a very good University of Washington team that is ranked 11th .The final score was 28 – 21. They hope to get back on track this week against Oregon State.
A.P. 19 –Mario Cristobal (3 -1) and Oregon fell to Stanford 38 – 31. Because Stanford was so highly ranked the Ducks actually moved up one spot to 19th in Associated Press Top 25. This week they face another good team when they play 24th ranked California, Berkeley.
Kevin Sumlin (2 -2) and Arizona got their second win over Oregon State 35 – 14. This week will be harder as they face the University of Southern California.
ACC
Dino Babers (4-0) and Syracuse beat Connecticut easily 51 -21. This week they have their biggest game of the season when they go to Clemson and face the 3rd ranked Tigers.
Wille Taggart (2 -2) and Florida State beat Northern Illinois 37 – 19. This week they will play at Louisville.
SEC
Derek Mason (2- 2) and Vanderbilt lost to South Carolina. This week they should get an easy win over Tennessee State.
WAC
Jay Norvell (2-2) and the University of Nevada Reno lost to the University of Toledo 63 – 44. This week they take on Air Force.
MWC
Anthony Sanchez(2 – 2) and the University of Nevada las Vegas beat Prairie View A&M 46 – 17. This week they New Mexico in Las Vegas.
AAC
Charlie Strong (4 – 0) and South Florida won against East Carolina 20 – 13 to stay undefeated. This week they play the University of Massachusetts.
Scottie Montgomery (1-2) and East Carolina lost a close game 20 -13 to South Florida. This week they have Old Dominion who pulled off a major upset of Virginia Tech on Saturday.
Ken Niumatalolo (2-2) and Navy lost to SMU 31 – 30. This week they will face their other rival, Air Force, in Colorado Springs.

Mike Jinks (1 – 3) and Bowling Green State lost to Miami (Ohio) 42 – 35. They play at Georgia Tech this week.

Frank Wilson(1 -3) and Texas San Antonio beat Texas State 25 – 21. They play the University of Texas El Paso this week.

Everett Withers (1 -3) and Texas State lost to UTSA 25 – 21. This week they play Louisiana, Lafayette.
