Sam Houston State University

FRANK-PARKERNamed for the first president of the Republic of Texas, Sam Houston State University (SHSU) was founded to educate teachers for the public schools of Texas. While SHSU’s educational missions have expanded over its 136-year history, it remains committed to educating the Texas workforce through excellence in academics, students’ success, efficient operations, loyalty to traditions and dedication to innovation.

Vice President Frank Parker leads SHSU’s Division of Student Services. Parker oversees 138 full-time and 10 part-time staff members, as well as a myriad of campus offices, including residence life, counseling services, student activities, international student services, and minority student services, to name a few.

When asked to reflect on this recognition of SHSU’s Division of Student Services, Parker shared,
“We place a tremendous amount of importance on creating an atmosphere in which our faculty and staff feel they can succeed. Our employment culture, characterized by collaboration, inclusiveness and professional
development, helps foster an academically rigorous, nurturing and fulfilling learning environment for our students and contributes to Sam Houston State University being the best at educating the next generation of young professionals.”

SHSU’s commitment to inclusiveness is embodied in all aspects of its student affairs work. The Division of Student
Services strives to complement the educational mission of the institution by creating learning environments that foster social, recreational, educational and intellectual interaction for SHSU’s students, faculty and staff. SHSU’s devotion to fostering collaborative, inclusive environments makes it one of this year’s Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs at Research Universities.
