RUQAIIJAH A. YEARBY has been named associate dean of institutional diversity and inclusiveness at the Case Western Reserve University School of Law. She is a professor of law, associate director of the Law-Medicine Center and Oliver C. Schroeder Jr. Distinguished Research Scholar at Case Western Reserve. Yearby earned a bachelor’s from the University of Michigan, a master’s from Johns Hopkins and a juris doctor from Georgetown University.

More than $2.7 billion in free federal grant money went unclaimed during the past academic year, according to a yearly analysis of incomplete or unsubmitted Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) forms by NerdWallet, the personal finance website.

RICHANNE C. MANKEY has been appointed president of Defiance College in Ohio, effective January 11. Mankey is vice president for institutional advancement at Daemen College in New York. She earned a bachelor’s from Ohio Northern University, a master’s from the University of Dayton and a doctorate from Teachers College at Columbia University.

South Carolina State Responds to Segregation Lawsuit
South Carolina’s only historically Black public university says that it has immunity and that current and former students who brought a federal court lawsuit alleging that the state operates a segregated system of higher education have no standing to sue.
