Online Proctoring Companies Respond to Senators’ Equity Concerns
A group of Democratic senators, led by Sen. Richard Blumenthal, called on three online proctoring companies to respond to equity and privacy concerns raised by students last month, setting a deadline of Dec. 17. The companies – ExamSoft, Proctorio and ProctorU – sent letters back to the senators detailing how their services work, with ExamSoft and ProctorU responding on Dec. 17 followed by Proctorio on Jan. 7.

Senators Scrutinize Virtual Proctoring Companies After Students Report Equity Concerns
As COVID-19 popularized virtual proctoring, students have increasingly reported incidents where the technology failed to register their faces, locked them out of their tests or overzealously flagged them for cheating, particularly students of color and students with disabilities. Six U.S. senators sent letters to three exam proctoring companies – ExamSoft, ProctorU and Proctorio – calling on them for accountability.
